As one of the world's leading suppliers of drilling, completion and workover and fracturing fluid system additives to sectors of the upstream oil and gas industry, here at TBC-BRINADD, we must continuously rise to the challenge of regulatory compliance in an ever-changing regulatory environment.
In the European Union (EU), Regulation (EC) 1907/2006 concerns the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) and was enacted in 2007. The legislation places stringent requirements on manufacturers and importers of chemicals, mixtures and articles and was adopted to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks that can be posed by chemicals. It also promotes alternative methods for the hazard assessment of substances in order to reduce the number of tests on animals. The REACH regulation was phased-in over an 11 year period, between 2007 and 2018.
As of December 2008, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) required that all substances manufactured in or imported into the EU above 1 tonne per year be notified through the pre-registration process. Full REACH registrations were subsequently carried out in a tiered approach between 2010 and 2018, known as the phase-in period.
